OPEN SESSION: Stanmer Listening Walk

Thursday, April 14, 2022
2:00 pm-3:30 pm

Location
Stanmer Park

Join us for a seasonal walk around Stanmer Park using our ears to guide us. We will be exploring Stanmer past and present using a range of creative tools that are fun and accessible for people of all abilities. We invite you to open your ears to experience our surroundings through the changing seasons.

What to expect

We will start with a simple ‘deep listening exercise’ before going for a walk around the ornamental woods / Arboretum. Our theme for this Spring walk is listening and playing with the trees.

If you would like to think about how we can listen to trees before the walk, you can listen to this BBC Radio 4 programme: How trees are talking to you and how to listen to them.

We expect to be walking gently for an hour with some uphill and uneven terrain . We will be stopping regularly to listen. It will be moderate walking difficulty. Please wear appropriate walking footwear, cover legs and bring water.

Is this for me?

All adults and accompanied children are welcome to take part in the sessions. No music-making or listening walk experience is necessary, just an openness to take part and try new things.

If you have any concerns about listening or walking, please contact us to discuss.

Is this a course or a drop-in?

You can book just one walk or sign up for other sessions as they become available – it’s up to you. Each session is unique; please see the website for details of each one. Sessions are funded by Brighton & Hove City Council – they’re free, but places are limited, so if you book, please turn up!
